Immanuel Kant (22.4.1724 - 12.2.1804)
The philosopher of the Age of Englightenment

"Although he twice failed to obtain a professorship at Königsberg, he refused to accept offers that would have taken him elsewere - including the professorship of poetry at Berlin that would have brought greater prestige. He preferred the peace and quiet of his native city in which to develop and mature his own philosophy."

[The New Encyclopaedia Britannica. 15th Ed., Vol. 22, Chicago 1987, 492]

*) Where is says "KANT-HOTEL", the IRIS® Office was built in 1999. This floor was re-constructed in 1905 to store all the nitro-films that were shown since then at the oldest Berlin-Film-Theatre, the "KANT-LICHTSPIELE".
